In the News – Candy Store Provides Jobs for Individuals with Autism
Hey Everyone!
My name is Lauren Farrell, a Speech Language Pathologist here at the Suffolk Center for Speech. For the month of August I will be posting various articles on speech and language resources, recent news, and even fun activities you can do at home.
This week will be focused on:
Autism
Following weeks will include:
Feeding therapy
Voice
Stuttering/Fluency
and more!
Today I wanted to share a great article I read on the Autism Speaks website. A special education teacher, Gloria Iverson of Illinois, has opened a candy store called Mini Man Monkey Brains. This unique candy store is a non-profit candy store focused on providing real-life vocational experience for individuals with autism. Gloria’s business mission is to teach individuals with autism vocational skills while benefiting her local community.
